My two friends and I left school and were talking to each other on our way home. We lived close to school and walked home. We were in the back of the school when the bullies on dirt bikes showed up. They started harassing us and put their dirt bike tires up on our faces to scare us. They stopped us and they grabbed our school books from our backpacks. They kept harassing us. They took our books and opened the dumpster in the back of the school. They threw our books into the dumpster. I told them that was fucked up and to give our books back. They laughed. I walked over to the dumpster and opened the lid, I reached in and grabbed our books. This pissed of the bullies. They stopped me by holding my hand on the dumpster and slamming the top of the metal lid of the dumpster down on my hand. They broke two of my fingers and mangled my left ring finger.
I don't remember feeling any pain. I was in shock. I remember my best friend looking at me like this is fucked up and you need medical attention because your ring finger is smashed. After the bullies broke my fingers they ran away and my friends walked me home. As I said, I was in shock. My friends walked me home and told my parents what happened. I went to the emergency room to get help.
This happened decades ago and I don't regret helping my friends stand up to bullies. I have a scar on my ring finger that will never go away. It is a constant reminder that I stood up to bullies and I fought back.
